Who We Are – Heart Soul and Mind

Who is Heart Soul and Mind? What do they stand for, and what does the name Heart Soul and Mind even mean? In this series of articles (which will accompany our videos) we are going to dive into these questions, and much more.

Who We Are

To start with let’s talk about who Heart Soul and Mind is. Who we are is put most simply in our mission statement, which is:

To gather a community of Christian creators, who love the Lord with all our Heart Soul and Mind and create works which come from our Heart Soul and Mind.

We’re going to take a little time and look at each part of our mission to better understand it.

Three Parts

I want to talk about that last phrase of the mission statement first. “Who create work which come from our Heart Soul and Mind” As humans we have 3 distinct, yet inseparable, parts of ourselves. We have our heart, which is our place of emotions and feelings. Our soul, which is our spirit, which God breathed into us at creation, and most closely connects us to the Creator. Finally, our minds which is our place of reason, thinking, and intellect.

When we say that we create works which come from our heart, soul, and mind, it means that we create from our emotions and feelings, from the part of ourselves that most closely connects us with God, and from our minds, which enable us to be thoughtful and reasonable.

Community

Let’s look back at the first part of our mission statement. “To gather a community of Christian creators.” For now, we’re going to put a pin in this, because we’ll come back and talk about this in more detail in a later article.

The Greatest Commandment

So then, the final part of our mission statement, “who love the Lord with all our Heart Soul and Mind.” The phrase “Heart Soul and Mind” are words of Jesus in Matthew 22:37. In this passage the religious leaders of the day were trying to trip up Jesus by asking him tough questions so he would say something they could use against him. In verses 36-40 we read a question they ask him and Jesus’ response.

‭“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

‭Matthew‬ ‭22:36‭-‬40‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Here Jesus is telling us the greatest thing that we can do, is to love God will all our heart, soul, and mind. Secondly, we can love our neighbor, as we love ourselves. Of course, none of us can do either of these perfectly. But here at Heart Soul and Mind through the power of the Holy Spirit this is what we strive to do and encourage others to do with our works.

How do we best love God? It begins, and ultimately ends, with knowing God. Knowing God is essential to the one requirement that we have of all the creators in the Heart Soul and Mind Community. In the next article we’re going to talk about that one requirement.
